Web application development for portals and internal tools
Sortia Labs builds web applications that your staff and customers use in the browser: customer portals, internal tools and admin interfaces. They run on computers, tablets and phones without installation and connect to your existing systems. We write the code so that your own team or another provider can carry it on.

What we build for the browser
Customer portals
Your customers see orders, contracts, invoices and documents in one place, upload files and send requests themselves. That takes load off phone and inbox, and requests arrive in a structured form where they are handled.
Internal tools
Where spreadsheets, e-mails and sticky notes hold a process together today, you get one application with forms, status and history. Everyone works on the same data instead of reconciling file versions by e-mail.
Progressive web apps
A progressive web app can be added to the home screen like an app, on iPhone and Android, without going through an app store. Where it makes sense, it stays usable on a weak connection.
Sign-in, roles and audit log
Sign-in with a second factor, permissions per role and department, and a log of who changed what and when. We bring this care from projects in banking IT.
Fast and accessible
Pages that load quickly on mobile networks, keyboard operation and readable contrast. Fonts and libraries ship with the application instead of coming from third-party servers, as on our own websites.
From the first conversation to a running web application
- 1
Users and workflows
We talk to the people who will work with the application every day and capture roles, data and connected systems in a short concept.
- 2
Clickable prototype
You click through the key screens before the actual development starts. That way misunderstandings come to light while changes still cost little.
- 3
Development in stages
Every stage ends with a working version on a test system that your team tries out. Automated tests and code review check with every change that existing features still work.
- 4
Go-live and operations
We deploy the application on our infrastructure, in your cloud or on your own server, and take care of updates, backups and monitoring if you want.
Software we build and run ourselves.
Questions about Web app development
Web app or an app from the store: which fits better?
For forms, lists, documents and approvals a web app is usually enough: it runs on any device with a browser, and updates reach every user without installation. A native app pays off when you need more of the phone, such as background tasks, Bluetooth or a custom keyboard. We build both, and they can share one backend.
Does the web application run on the iPhone?
Yes, in Safari and the other browsers on iPhone and iPad, and a progressive web app can also be added to the home screen there. We do not build native iOS apps ourselves; for those we work with partners.
Which technology do you use?
On the server mostly PHP 8 or Python, in the browser JavaScript and TypeScript, PostgreSQL or MySQL as the database, shipped with Docker and nginx. We choose what your team can maintain later, not what happens to be fashionable.
Can you take over an existing web application?
Yes. We work our way into the code, database and server, describe the current state and first fix whatever puts operations or security at risk. Then we develop the application further or rebuild it step by step while it stays in use.

Tell us which workflow your web application should carry.
A few sentences about users, data and existing systems are enough. We get back to you with a first assessment and a proposal for the prototype.
